Dead Man's Hand
Two pair - Aces and Eights. (Wild Bill Hickock was shot in the back while playing this hand.)
Dead Money
(1) Money contributed to a pot by a player no longer in the pot. (2) A player in a tournament who has no realistic chance of winning.
Dealer
The person who deals the cards in a card game. In Hold'em the player in the dealer position is the last person to act. Because of this he has an information advantage, because he knows what all other players will do before he has to act.
Dealer Button
A small round disk that is moved from player to player in a clockwise direction following each hand, to theoretically indicate the dealer of each hand.
Deposit Bonus
A cash bonus that an online poker room gives tonew players that sign up and make a deposit. Typically, the poker room makes the bonus a percentage of the player's first deposit. Also known as Sign Up Bonus.
Discard
To throw out (a playing card) from one's hand.
Donk
See Donkey. To make a poor, donkey-like play, even if successful.
Donkey
An unknowledgeable and thoughtless player.
Door Card
This is the first exposed card, or 'up' card, in a player's hand in Stud games.
Double Belly Buster
Having two inside straight draws; for example in Texas Holdem when you hold 65 and the first four board cards are 9832.
Double Suited
In Omaha, when the four down cards are of just two suits, giving good flush possibilities.
Double Up
To double the size of your chip stack on a single hand. (This is typically done by going All In against another player andwinning the hand.)
Down Cards
Hole cards. Cards that are dealt face down.
Doyle Brunson
It's a Hold'em hand consisting of a 10-2. (Brunson won the WSOP main event two years in a row on the final hand with these cards.)
Draw
Drawing means hoping to improve your hand with the cards that will come on the board. You are on a draw when you want other cards to come out on the board to complete your hand. For example, if you have 10 9 and the flop is QJ2, you are trying to draw an eight or a king on the turn or river.
Draw Poker
Form of poker where eachplayer is dealt five cards down with the option of discarding one or more and replacing them with new ones to attempt to make a better hand.
Drawing Dead
Trying to make a hand that, even if made, will not win the pot. If you're drawing to make a flush, and your opponent alreadyhas a full house, you are "drawing dead."
